Goodbye Windows XP, I told you so!

Last month I mentioned that I had heard that Microsoft was dropping Windows XP and that their product support would also be dropped in April of 2009. A lot of people told me I was full of it and that even if they dropped XP they would support it for 10 years... guess again. Support will end this April. If you don't wish to take my word for it take this link to Microsoft's website and read it for yourself. Please note they use the day/month/year format which is confusing at first glance. http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-gb&x=16&y=12&C2=1173

I did purchase a copy of XP in December in case the rumors were true. I wanted to be sure I would have an operating system for some of my older equipment as I believe the Vista hardware/software/memory demands can not be met by mt old PII and PIII machines. You may wish to do the same if you have some older equipment around.

Pretty sad. Vista really sucks. My windows machine currently run vista. I already have 6 BSOD after using it for only less than a month. My previous xp machine never got a BSOD for over 2 years.

Bob -I can't believe that Microsoft is stopping support for XP. Vista is a real problem and people are not happy with it. Microsofts solutions for Vista is windows 7. Before they move onto another operating system they should fix Vista.

Bob - they have extended support until 2014, which is very similar to the current support level, except they won't be introducing new features, etc. I have been on Vista for almost 2 years, and, while there are some frustrations, never a BSOD. I got that alot with XP.

Thank you all,

The link above is to the offical Microsoft website and is NOT 3rd party. It plainly states that service ends April 14th 2009. I do not know what extended service is but I am assuming that it is a pay for service (yes I know what assume means). I just wish Microsoft would continue to service what they sell. It's a shame that you can go to Walmart and purchase a brand new emachine loaded with software (including Vista) for less then you can buy Microsofts operating system.
