Do Your Homework Before Hiring A Home Inspector

In the state of MO a home inspector is not required to be licensed or certified. The job of a home inspector is to find defects in the home. A seller may not always be required to disclose issues a home is having if they have never lived in the home. This is another reason to be sure that you have a good and thorough inspector.

Although, a license or certification is just that, a piece of paper. It does not necessarily mean they can perform the job properly. It simply means that they a basic knowledge. Having a license does not mean that a inspector will do any better job than if they do not have a piece of paper. I have several home inspectors that I recommend to clients. I have seen their work and I have complete faith in them doing a good job for my clients. It is still up to the buyer to be sure they are hiring a competent inspector. Check references, etc.

I couldn't agree more! You have to go to school for a minimum of 6 months to be able to give somebody a $10 haircut in the State of Utah. You don't have to go to school for one day to call yourself a home inspector and start inspecting million dollar homes.

ASK FOR CERTIFICATIONS!
