From dangerous road conditions and freezing temperatures, to snow-bound communities and damaged homes, New Mexico winters can be a real challenge. Prepare for severe winter weather with these critical steps:

  • Make a kit with rock salt, warm clothing, blankets, sand and snow shovels
  • Make a winter emergency plan and practice it
  • Insulate your pipes and allow faucets to drip to prevent frozen pipes
  • Assess and repair roof leaks and clear your gutters
  • Be prepared to assist elderly, ill or disabled friends, family or neighbors
  • Learn how to shut off your water valves
  • Make sure your vehicle is ready: check fluids, battery, lights, tires, heater, etc.
  • Insulate home with weather stripping

Funny thing about us north easterners,  we think we're the only ones with bad winters.  I know very little about New Mexico,  I'm thinking, O south west, nice weather.  Thanks for the education.

Hello Kenneth,

Yes, we do have cold weather here but recently the weather has been in the upper 50's! We are enjoying it. Thank you! Have a great evening!
