Open Houses on Super Bowl Sunday? What are your thoughts?

By
Real Estate Agent with Cummings & Co. Realtors 604121

I have heard various opinions on this topic from many different agents.  Some say an overwhelming YES and some say and overwhelming NO!  What is your opinion?

Personally I think there are many pros and cons with this issue

PROS:

  • More people will come to your open house because not many other agents are hosting them!
  • The non football people need something to do!
  • There will be a lot of traffic in various neighborhoods hosting super bowl parties!

CONS:

  • There are a lot of FOOTBALL PEOPLE who could care less about an open house when the big game is on!
  • There will not be a lot of extra parking spaces since all the neighbors are having people over for the big game!
  • Since there will not be a lot of them out there people may wait until the next weekend to go looking!

WHAT DO YOU THINK?  ARE YOU PLANNING ANY OPENS ON SUNDAY?

Thanks for the topic. I was thinking today about holding an open house on Sunday.  There are always people (hopefully buyers or future buyers) who are not into football who are out looking.  Just think, fewer open houses, more opportunity!  Good luck.

Hey Mike,

I'm opting to host the Open House from 1pm to 3pm.  If there is activity at 3pm, then we continue, if not.... off to the superbowl party early.

I will be off to the superbowl party early myself!  No Opens for me this Sunday, I am taking that day off (unless of course I get a call for a showing, LOL)!

There are hundreds in my area at the Jersey Shore...   The weather here is supposed to be good for this time of year.  Probably will create good traffic.

If nothing else, you can catch some great pre game stuff!!

All of your points are valid on both sides.  I'm taking the day off to enjoy the game with my family.

One of my houses is being held open, and it doesn't even have a television in it! The game doesn't start until later anyway.

Mike:

There ain't no way you or anyone else is going to write a deal during the superbowl.

Do you have any idea of the public perception about how HARD UP for business you are would be for holding an "open house" during the super bowl?

Realtors are held in pretty low esteem by the general public right now and to have your name attached to an open house superbowl Sunday would be business suicide in my opinion.

Has anyone reading this ever been to the Craigslist Housing Forum to hear the bleak reports about open houses around the country every week?

Michael living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland I think it really sucks that Pittsburg is going to be playing instead of OUR team but that is still not enough for me to ruin my reputation sucking on the crack pipe of a phantom deal in the worst market since the great depression of the 1930's.

Grab your favorite beverage, some snacks then get with your favorite people and root for the Cardinals!

I wouldn't even think of an open house this Sunday.  There are too many people with plans for that day.

Michael - I would say no on doing an open house on Super Bowl Sunday. I think to many people are focused on the game to worry about going to an open house. GO CARDS!

The lead in Super Bowl programming goes on and on. By kickoff, I'm oftern TVed out. So go ahead and have that open house and give it a Super Bowl theme with decorations, a pool whatever. Great way to get people involved. Then at 4 or 5 or whenever your done, collect any remaining buyers and head for the nearest saloon.
