Live Green in Plano - Expo 2007 this weekend

By

As a resident of Plano, Texas, I've made the pledge to "Live Green".  I'm trying to conserve water by taking shorter showers and washing my clothes in cold water.  I recycle my newspaper and any item that I can put in my recycle container.  I've changed my lights to energy efficient light bulbs.

Plano is kicking off their "Live Green" initiative with Expo 2007 this weekend at the Plano Centre from 9am - 5pm.  The Live Green in Plano Expo is a FREE, fun, family event that will help North Texans make informed decisions and take action to lead more healthy lives with less impact on our environment.

The Live Green in Plano Expo strives to create a community in which:

  • We protect our environment by conserving resources, minimizing waste and reducing toxic products and materials.
  • We have healthy ecosystems and sustainable neighborhoods.
  • We protect our environment by conserving resources, minimizing waste and reducing toxic products and materials.

The Live Green in Plano Expo is designed around nine core values:

Transportation Energy
Yard and Garden Household Products
Food and AgricultureWaste Reduction
Lifestyle and RecreationWater
Green Building and Remodeling

Do something good for your environment and "Live Green" today!

What are you doing to save the environment for future generations?  I want to hear your ideas.

Linda, Great blog and happy to hear the excitement going green makes in Plano!

I switched to showers, recycle and a few more and now I am adding green cleaning supplies.

The Live Green in Plano Expo is great! Thanks for sharing.

Leslie, I've been thinking about switching to "green" cleaning supplies for two reasons.  First, I have bad allergies and I think the "green" products would be better for me and second, it is just better for the environment.  Do you have any recommendations for the best products?  I've heard of Seventh Generation and Shaklee but I don't know much about them.

Linda,I only know of Shaklee and Seventh Generations from reading and  Oprah. They sure sound promising.

I am also checking out simple natural cleaners. Like: lemon, baking powder, vinegar etc. Will keep you updated on what I find!

I am a "striving to learn" greenie

Linda~

I'm looking at your post again..noticing that you mentioned nine core values...

Transportation Energy
Yard and Garden Household Products
Food and AgricultureWaste Reduction
Lifestyle and RecreationWater
Green Building and Remodeling

of which GREEN BUILDING and remodeling is one...Would you say that this focus represents a trend in the market?

JaneAnne,

Thanks for the warm welcome.  Yes, I'm planning on going to the Expo this weekend.  I'm very excited to hear new ideas for living green.  I didn't know about the Challenge - thanks for the heads up.  I'll take my camera!

I'm not sure I'd call Green Building a trend because I see it as the future of all construction.  In Texas, there has been in an effort in the new communities to build Energy Star homes.  And a growing concern recently has been how to handle water.  North Texas has been in a drought and with all the new construction we are using more and more water.  50% of all the water that is used in my city, is attributed to outdoor irrigation.

Linda, not sure if you have found more info re: Shaklee. I used it years ago and forgot about it until a few years ago. Went back to using the products and they are better than ever. If you'd like more info, here's a link:

Awesome products!

Nina - I did buy some of the Shaklee products.  They are good but expensive and I don't like the idea of having to buy from a sales rep. It is so much easier to buy products in the grocery store.
