Everyone is going green and trying to shift everything they do to be environmentally conscious, including what kind of car they drive. "Green" cars are becoming increasingly popular, with a huge rise in sales and popularity all over the U.S.

However, auto insurance for "green" cars like Hybrids, the Smart Roadster, and the Honda Insight do cost a bit more to cover on your auto insurance. This is due to the fact that repair costs are higher, the parts are harder to find and more complicated to fix. "Green" cars are often smaller, meaning that there are more injuries, as well as higher theft rates. In fact, The Wall Street Journal recently reported that some Smart Car owners had to purchase a commercial auto policy when they couldn't get a regular auto policy.

So, should you go ahead and get a "green" car?

It depends on you - it's your decision. For some people, you can't put a price on improving our planet. For others, they don't think owning a "green" car is worth the extra insurance, along with the other hassles of high theft rates, more exposure to injury, and more frustration at the repair shop. Those people decide to keep their regular car and use some of the money they save on insurance to donate to environment-focused organizations.
