Try Seeing With 12-Year Old Eyes

Jimmy, Jerry, Lee, SonnyWe list and sell house all the time. For buyers and sellers it is a whole new experience. Just like today when we took 12 year old Sonny and his dad Jimmy for a new experience...a ride in the airplane. We have flown to Cambridge many times for breakfast and had wonderful meals at Kay's Restaurant. We have even made a Pitts stop. So what was different this time?

Cambridge Bridges

That's Ice Not SandWell, there was ice on the Chesapeake, and it looks pretty cool, pun intended, from the air. What looks like sandy beach is actually ice. And the Cambridge Bridge looks so different from the air. Hey, look at the second bridge. What gives? It does not meet! Then I found out that the one with the gap in the middle is the old bridge and they left it just for fishing. A much better choice than dumping tons of steel and concrete into the Bay or a landfill somewhere.

Sonny Helping ParkSonny's excitement was refreshing and exuberating. I looked at this trip through his eyes and through his exclamations. "Awesome!" "Cool!" "This is so much fun!" He had his camera and was snapping away. Have you ever seen a happier face? Sonny was excited and asked to sit in the back seat on the way back so he could get better photos with the wing out of the way. Back at the airport he was a big help pushing the plane backwards to park.Flying Happy

It's easy to forget that what is familiar to us is all new to others. When you are working with clients, try looking at their experience from their perspective, through their eyes.

Margaret that ice does look like the sand on the beach. I can relate to describing it as "Cool."

How wonderful to share the flight with someone who enjoyed it!  Great photos and brrrr I really wish we had sand instead of ice right now.

Margaret - you have some great aerial shots there. Tampa Bay's Sunshine Skyway Bridge has along side one of the largest and best fishing piers. It was turned into the pier after a horible disaster when a vessel crashed into the former bridge in 1980

Those are some great pictures. It brings back memories from many years ago when a friend kept an airplane at College Park Airport and would call me on Sunday morning and say " want to go down to the beach?" We'd fly down and come back in the evening a look at the lines of cars coming home. Great memories. Thanks!

Hi Margaret I have never been in a small plane like that myself but I can understand why the words cool and awsome were tossed around:)

Margaret, I've been trying to get my own home ready to show in the morning. I keep walking into the rooms pretending I'm seeing it for the first time! It's tough. I've been here 12 years so I just overlook so much!

I love the look in Sonny's eyes! He does look like he's having a blast. I have flown upside down across the Fla coast so low that you could see turtles and fish swimming. That was when I was much younger and just knew I would live forever...it wouldn't happen today!

Did you see Jon? Just curious!

Cindy, It was a fun morning and I loved watching it through Sonny's eyes

Petra, Good use for a disaster situation.

Alan, Glad you made those memories. It is a wonderful way to travel.

Bill, We need to change that. Come to Baltimore and we will take you for your first ride.

Deb, What kind of plane were you in? Sounds like great fun....and you wouldn't do again today?

Did not see Jon, but we spoke. Baltimore/Washington is in the  middle of some challenging weather...snow and ice all night.   Just like you don't feel safe flying upside down anymore, I don't feel safe driving to DC in an ice storm.

Margaret,

When I was Sonny's age, a private pilot took the time to show me what flying was all about.  It's why I'm a private pilot today.  Great story!

What a great reminder.  We tend to forget that although these are only houses to us they are our clients homes.
