In picture# 1 your eyes immediately focus on the furniture, but in picture #2 the walls and the floor force you to widen your focus therefore the furniture is seen second.
We painted a white chocolate on the walls, the light fixture was found on sale under $150.00 at a lighting store, the seat covers are cheap pillow cases slipped on and held with tape underneath, and to stop the cabinet eating light, mirror tile was propped up into the plate rails to reflect as much light as possible back into the room.
