The Short Sale Learning Curve

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker - Tomlinson Group Boise

For nearly 8 of the last 12 months I thought Short Sales to be a hopeless battle with banks and several times I had the horrifying pleasure of watching deals go to the waste side, because of lack of knowledge and experience. None of this had to do with the willingness of me as an agent or of the agent on the other side of the transaction.God knows that more than ever all of us are dependent up on each and every transaction we come across and I know for a fact that I gave it all I could to make those deals come together. I feel that failure in this category is like my learning lesson with starting new in the business of Real Estate, but instead of having forgiving clients to work your mistakes out on, you have a struggling banking system on one side and a completely distraught client on the other side. Failure had grown a new meaning. Someone put there last bit of hope in me and let them down, what crushing blow. It felt as if I were a messenger in a bloody battle, trying to get a resolution agreed upon by both sides and at any moment if one of the feels that I am not doing my job in controlling the other or getting the other what they want, I am terminated at will. In the blink of an eye 3 months of hard work goes to the wayside and you are talked about like a fool.

You would think that maybe this would be a good sign that short sales were not for me and believe me I had that talk with myself several times, but a few months ago I had a real breakthrough. Success had finally found me!! Amongst the all the struggling with banks and there ever thicken layer system, helping my sellers come to terms with the loss of there home and convincing buyers that I would be able to get them to the finish line before they lost interest, I managed to find my way. Now I'd be willing to put money on the fact that it was pure determination and my fear of failure that has brought me to this point, but none the less failure was the the one catalyst that has made all the difference.

Nothing feels worse than failing and realizing that you could have done more to change the outcome of the situation if you had only known then what you know now, but I feel that this is what has driven me to succeed. I have been spending the last year becoming versed on how a short sale works. I know the ins and outs and I am beginning to see the results of working short sales. For anyone who feels that there no hope, I would hope that this glimpse of my story of success will help you to fight when you feel all hope is gone.

I plan to start discussing short sales as much as I can to help those who are where I was at one time. I am no where near the expert and probably have just as much to learn from others failures as they will learn from mine, but if in the end we are better at this, I will have reached my goal of making the Learning curve of short sales shorter and my job as a short sale agent easier.

thanks for your ears!
