Ted:  Thanks!  This was back in 1972 and she has been gone for many years now.  We had a lot of laughs that day.  My grandmother was a really fun lady!  Her name was Thelma and to this day we refer to her when my dad gets a cranky look on his face.  We call him Thelma face because he looks like she does in the first picture.

Sharon - Nana looks scared to death!  I think she's wondering what she's gotten herself into...  :)

Gary:  You are right...WTH was surely running through her mind.

Debi:  I am sure she was having second thoughts!  It was quite a day for poor Nana!  I don't think she ever went in again.

Dora:  It's so funny, the majority are assuming the water temperature is the reason for her expression.  It was summer and the water wasn't that cold.  It is fear, not cold, she is reacting to.

Tony:  You made me laugh.  Contrary to what you think, this is not a case of Nana Abuse.  I have no idea why the ladder is next to, instead of inside, the pool.

Colleen:  It is actually a rain bonnet.  One of those plastic hats women used to tie to their heads in the rain.  That is my favorite detail of the picture.  Thanks for noticing!

I love the scarf too! My mom used to always wear a scarf whenever she went out, whether a chiffon one for every day or those plastic rain scarves your Nana was wearing. Years ago my dad finally put his foot down and told her she looked like an old woman when she wore them. Although we were secretly relieved, a part of me is sad that she doesn't wear them anymore...

Leslie:  I remember my grandmothers both wearing those plastic rain hats.  That's funny that your father made her stop wearing it.  Women used to wear curlers in public back then too!  Thanks for sharing!

Sharon - I think she was mad about having to wear a bathing cap - and may I ask did she know how to swim? She looks like a scared cat trying to claw its way out of the water. lol

Sharon:  Looks like she probably didn't stay in long.   My Mom is terrified of water and whenever I am able to drag her into waist deep water, she still needs a noodle or some floaty device.

Chris Ann:  Your mother sounds like my mother.  She never learned to swim and I don't think I ever saw her in water without some kind of flotation device to hang on to.  Yes, Nana was very scared and she did not stay in long.

I don't think she quite gets what all the fuss is about.... and I have to be honest, I'm with her.  I hate swimming!!

Melissa:  I'm not a swimmer, probably because my mother was petrified of swimming.  I don't enjoy getting wet unless I'm really hot and need to cool off.  It's in and out for me!  My poor nana, that was brave of her!
