Ok. So I managed to delete a blog this afternoon when my computer froze up on me. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to turn this darn thing on. It really is a pain in my a$$ sometimes. But, how did we ever get along without them?

I've always been kind of an outdoors kind of guy. Fishing, hunting, sports, you name it. That all goes back to when I was a kid. We had to play outside, and we actually had friends that would come to the door. Not IM you or text to see what yo were doing. They actually got their a$$ out of the house and rode their bike over just to see what you were doing. Amazing.

I am not that old, but the world has changed in a hurry. There was a real bond betweeen FRIENDS back then. Yes FRIENDS, not contacts, associates, link partners, whatever you wanna call them. I know we all rely on our computers and those we communicate with on them. But we need to step back, go outside and breathe in some fresh air(unless yo uhave a smog problem), and relax.

I fear some old man is going to tell his grandson one day about his best friend Jimmy3578. I'm sure he'll tell him about the time they IM'd each other for 36 hours straight or how they texted each other faithfully for 10 years.

Anyway, I am done ranting, I have to step back, go outside, breathe in some fresh air and breathe. Thanks.

Ian - what an absolutely gorgeous dog you have!  Pat him on the head for me. :)

I'm into both. Love the ease of communication I get from the use of my notebook and cell phone. Enjoy walking across to the Commanders house and listening to his WWII stories. Sit down at the end of the day to read a good book in front of the fireplace while my hubby reads the paper and plays with his dog.

Life has so much to offer, we should take advantage of the new, while holding on to the old.

Nice post Ian, thought provacative and yet simple and uncomplicated.

Ian, black labs are my favorite dog!  I hear what you are saying about communication.  My son is 34 and I think his generation (X) was the last one to actually go outside and play with their friends.  I read an article the other day about how toddlers and pre-schoolers are so tied to video games and computers they cannot articulately communicate with humans, some don't even know their last names!  I agree with Suesan above, take advantage of the new while holding onto the old.  My computer is 10 years old, I have a 1950's Grundig console stereo which plays vinyl, my kitchen gadgets belonged to one of my grandmothers and do not require electricity.  We can simplify our lives with electronics that ultimately drive us into insanity, or we can hold onto the old, and keep our lives on a simple plane, no tech support in India needed!

Ian nice to hear some good old fashioned ideas.  As we sit hear at the computer, I feel like I've lost a little of myself in the last ten years.  If I look real hard I can find it, I'm sure, in some electrons racing from one IP to another.

Nice to read some of your responses. Also good to see I am not the only one who feels this way. Sometimes I feel like there is just a huge DISCONNECT out there. What about you guys?

I can't wait to hear a current 15-year-old about 30 years from now: "When I was young, we had to actually type instead of just thinking it. You, son, have it easy." LOL
