The "Spending Bill" Passed 244-188. It's not the best solution for getting our economy going.
I have a better solution.
We are a nation of consumers, not producers. We buy goods manufactured in foreign countries from factories who employ low cost labor and beat our brains out on price. This is part of our problem. If you don't make stuff in this country, you don't sell stuff here. If you don't make stuff here, you don't employ Americans. If you don't make stuff and sell it to Americans, there is no consumption--especially here--and therefore, no money flows into the economy. Follow? I know you do.
If there's no money flowing into the economy--the government will tell you, you need to be "bailed out!" And our leaders in congress will oblige.
There is nothing in the 2009 SPENDING Bill which stimulates making things in this country.
All of the spendingis for "make-work" projects. This has not worked in the past and it won't work now.
Here is a better idea:
Have our government subsidize business owners who will open up 1000's of mandated broom factories across the country. These would be no-tech facilities that employ thousands of unskilled workers--(takes care of unemployment problem, reducing it to below 4 %, my estimate) also, broom imports would not be permitted. And our broom plants would be carbon neutral--all plants would be located in warm climates--no heat required--and they would operate from January until April--no air conditioning required. We, thereby reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
Employees would have paid vacation/family leave from May until December. We don't expect we'd have a lack of willing broom workers.
We'll call our product The Great American Broom
Then, to get even more money flowing into our economy we'll hire unemployed real estate agents to go out and sell The Great American Broom to every household, at the same time, each agent will ask home owners if they or anyone they know is interested in buying or selling real estate--this will help reduce the glut of housing inventory--and no home owner will object to the agent coming to their home, because they are going into homes to sell the Great American Broom, not real estate--a neat cover that demolishes sales resistance. (Also, all agents are on commission, of course)
Agents will use their commissions (100% contract) to buy goods and services. They will not be permitted to use their income to pay their NAR dues, local board dues, C.E. fees, desk fees, technology fees, MLS fees, franchise fees, transaction fees, e & o insurance. Why? Because these entities do nothing but suck money out of the Realtors pockets and out of the economy. This means that Realtors will not require a bail out.
Next, we form a union--The Union of The Great American Broom Workers. We project 20 million members--makes that 4 million increase in employment Obama projected look pretty puny.
Then, we hire a lobbyist, send him to Washington to pester/convince/bribe Senators and Congressman to approve funding for FREE bus tickets to Washington DC for our Union's goodwill junket to the Capitol(using buses will save fuel and decrease greenhouse emissions, Al Gore will have nothing to complain about.)
Each bus rider must take The Great Amreican Broom with them.
Upon arriving in D.C., the first order of business is a march into all of those BIG WHITE BUILDINGS in our nations capital to sweep the place clean
Our first junket would be in 2010!
