Hi Laurie...Debi was exactly right.  It does bring to mind a sea shell.

James has an eye for beauty.

Debi - It really is beautiful, and I, too, immediately thought of a seashell when I saw it. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Roy - Jamie tells me that it is 2 or 3 stories, and that there is a dome over the top. He also says that this is just one of several impressive staircases. I guess these weren't monks who were into poverty and simple living. They sure were into beauty, though. Life is good!

Kate  - I've marveled for years at his eye. He sees things in out-of-the-ordinary ways. About this one, he says that it would have been hard to take a bad picture, but I still say he did a great job. (Admittedly, as his mother, I'm not exactly unbiased...) Thanks for the comment.

Steve - I've relayed your comment to Jamie, and he says thanks. I'm glad be able to share something beautiful with you. Thanks for checking it out!

Johnathan - I thank you, and my son the photographer thanks you. I was amazed when I first saw this photo, but he just says it was so beautiful, it would have been hard not to take a great picture. I still think there was skill involved, though. Thanks for stopping by!

Konnie - Jamie says that the abbey is beautiful, not creepy at all. Apparently, it's a jewel of baroque architecture, very ornate, with large, lovely rooms. But it does make me dizzy to look at that picture... Thanks for commenting!
