Snuggies Blanket the World!

By
Real Estate Agent

Okay, maybe not the world, but they definitely are the hit of the year.  For those of you that don't have a clue what a Snuggieis (and if you don't, where have you been?), that's the weird looking blanket with arms.  Late-nighters have seen the commercials for awhile now.  A picture's worth a thousand words, right?

Snuggie

I'll be honest, when I first saw these things, I never thought that it would even be a success, much less a cult hit!  Since October of 2008, over 4 million Snuggies have been sold.  I guess I was in the minority of thought when they showed a family proudly wearing these things in public at some game.  My thought was "I'd freeze to death first!"

Still, it's good to hear a success story in the news, what with all the other bad things that they have to talk about right now.  And it gets better, too!  Turns out that this whole "blanket with arms" thing isn't new.  Apparently, there was at least an earlier attempt at marketing this.  In the late 90's, it was called the "Slanket."  I guess I missed that one completely.  Just goes to show you what a neat name and some good crafty marketing can do for success.

I've gotten close to owning one of these, though.  At Christmas, I did get the cool little book lamps that come with the purchase of a Snuggie as a gift during a mean game of Dirty Santa (I guess the Snuggie was just too good to be given as someone's present!).

I am ready to join the Snuggie Cult.  I am willing to fore-go my dignity, my manhood and conform to the masses of monkish-looking couch potatoes.  So if you are willing to share, I think I am ready to feel the Snuggie warmth!

I have a snuggie and that is the best thing they have ever invented. I just wonder what took them so long to put pockets on a blanket and sleeves on it. My dog also loves the idea, most of the time she steals it from me!

Have you tried buying an XL bathrobe?  It's the same thing and easier to move around in!

I don't think so, Ursula.  It's got arms.  And I also saw a pic with 2 people to one Snuggie.  Cuddles and a Snuggie, too.

Yes, Lisa, it will pass, like all fads.  But success is still success.  Look at the Chia Pet and the Clapper.  Their days are over as fads, but they still sell them.

I'd probably have to share it with my dog, too, Jennifer.  The idea has apparently been around for a while.  It just took a cute name to make it a Hit.

Donna, an extra large bathrobe is not cool.  Besides, you'd look dumb wearing a big bathrobe backwards while at a ballgame.  Come On!!  :-)

You can't ever get that commercial out of your head.  If only they had a catchy jingle.  Hey, maybe we can make one up to the tune of a Slinkie!

Everybody loves their Snuggie, Kathleen.  Now you know what I need for my Birthday!! (PS, you can keep the book lights, I've already got those)

Snuggie rentals?  I think you've hit on a great side business, Sharon.

I've seen their ad many times on TV. They do have a good ad campaign. I guess showing the commercial over and over during a program may get some results.

Go for it, Roger!  At two for $20.00...they could barely be home-made for that.  Too bad they only come in 3 colors, though!  (Surely, soon they will offer more...hint, hint to the Snuggie makers.)

How funny is this....  I am reading this while I am sitting here wrapped in a snuggie!  Ha ha ha    Don't really like the color, and it is way to long, and falls off all the time.  But my husband and I recieved 2 of them for christmas so we are using them.

Only three colors, huh?  I may have to hold out until they start making them in team colors.

Now I'm jealous, Bobbi.  All I got for Christmas was the book lamps!  I have an idea for the falling off though.  Slap some velcro on the back where it goes together.  Should do the trick.

Hi Roger,

Well, thank you for visiting site and leaving a comment because here I am now looking at a Snuggie blog!!  I placed an order on line in the middle of December for Christmas gifts.  Well, it's already February and my order is still on back order.  Do you think I should be concerned because after all my credit card information is on that order.

My suggestion is wait until summer and order it and take a trip to Alaska in June.  You'll use it.  I was there in June and if I'd have had a Snuggie I'd have been in it silly looking or not.

Hey Marlene,

I had heard that they were backed up a bit on the orders.  Maybe it's time I get my sewing machine out!  I think I could throw out some knock-offs pretty quick! :-)  I've got my second career in the works already.
