How to Recognize A Coloradoan

By
Real Estate Agent with Real Estate Showcase Photography

We're a different breed here...With a variation of breeds even within the state (note: Boulder!) And yes, sometimes we're even a bit snobby about it... (My mountains are BIGGER THAN YOUR mountains!) We are blessed with an incredible beauty that surrounds us everyday, in every season, all year long. From the majestic mountain ranges of the Western Slope, to the wide open plains of the East, the entire state is candy for the eye. And if you own a camera, well, Colorado is a dream come true.

Colorado MountainsAntelope on the Plains

That's not to say we can't poke a little fun at ourselves from time to time....

98% OF AMERICANS SCREAM BEFORE GOING INTO THE DITCH ON A SLIPPERY ROAD. THE OTHER 2% ARE FROM COLORADO AND THEY SAY, HOLD MY SODA AND WATCH THIS

NOW:

You're from Colorado if:
·        You'll eat ice cream in the winter.
·        When the weather report says it's going to be 65 degrees, you shave your legs and wear a skirt.
·        It snows 5 inches and you don't expect school to be canceled.
·        You'll wear flip flops every day of the year, regardless of temperature.
·        You have no accent at all, but can hear other people's.
·        'Humid' is anything over 25%.
·        Your sense of direction is: Toward the mountains and Away from the mountains.
·        You say 'the interstate' and everybody knows which one.
·        You think that May is a totally normal month for a blizzard or ice storm.
·        You buy your flowers to set out on Mother's day, but try and hold off planting them until just before Father's day.
·        You grew up planning your Halloween costumes around your coat.
·        You know what the Continental Divide is.
·        You've gone off-roading in a vehicle that was never intended for such activities.
·        You always know the elevation of where you are.
·        You wake up to a beautiful, 80 degree day and you wonder if it's going to snow tomorrow.
·        You don't care that some company renamed it, the Broncos still play at Mile High.
·        Everybody wears jeans to church.
·        You actually know that ** South Park ** is a real place, not just a show on TV.
·        You know what a 'trust fund hippy' is, and you know its natural habitat is Boulder.
·        You know you're talking to a fellow Coloradoan when they call it Elitches, not Six Flags.
·        A bear on your front porch doesn't bother you.Boy and a bear
·        Your two favorite teams are the Broncos and whoever is beating the Raiders.
·        When people out East tell you they have mountains in their state too, you just laugh.
·        You go anywhere else on the planet and the air feels 'sticky' and you notice the sky is no longer blue. (This point is MY personal BIG one! DB)

It's Meeeeeeeeee - Now, I can buy into almost everything you said.  BTW - I would love to be a "Trust Fund Hippie" and live in Boulder....Woo-Hoo!!!  BUT the blue sky remark will bring all the Montanans down on you in a nanosecond.  And...I've seen a blue sky or 2 in Florida, bluer than your first pic...HAHAHAHA.  Cute post dearheart, light and fun.  You had better get over to FeatherHeads before she starts missing you at the party ;-)  Get those batteries charged!

My oh My!! I love this post!! Your pictures are gorgeous, and the jokes... HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Yes Sirree!! That's  Colorado!!  I love the one about the Halloween costumes, because that is true! I remember my little girl crying because she looked fat with her coat under her costume!! I thought she wasn't going to go out Trick-or-Treating!!

Also, driving off the road HAHAHAHAHAHA!! I've done that. AND when my husband and I were young, we unintentionally did about 20 donuts down a slick road in his VW bug, and laughed our heads off the whole way down!!

Maybe it's the altitude??

LOL...your PITA friend...signing off for the evening!  14 hours on the computer leaves me...well, too tired for a virtual party.  You guys have fun, mention me fondly so I can have sweet dreams.  While I'm dreaming, I'll be ordering up VERY blue skies for your trip next week.  When are you arriving in Ft. Lauderdale?  Later girlfriend!!!

Debi- it was great meeting you last night at Mary's party. I love this blog.I was out in Colorado a few years ago on vacation. My husband and I absolutely LOVED it! He wants to move there, I would if it weren't for that snow stuff. (having lived in Buffalo NY for way too long, I've grown to hate the cold).

I had never heard about "trust fund hippies" but it sounds like a cool thing, Is it too late to aspire to be one some day?

It was great meeting you, too, and I'm glad you like this post! Happy to make you smile.

Debi- eh, there's the rub! My family doesn't have any money! Can I have a virtual family with money and be a virtual trust fund hippie? I just told my husband about this phrase and he wants to be one too! We'd be a great addition to your beautiful state. And after all, don't you need one more Realtor and another lawyer!

We called 'em "Trust-afarians" in Leadville.  Snowed our first 4th of July there, and High School graduation. They had their first school snow day since 1939 just a few years back, went well over 60 years without one.  Doc Holliday said of Leadville, "You got June, July and Winter".  And Halloween...the stories could go on and on...LOL

Cheryl, If Leadville had snow days, the kids would be making the days up till October!

Mary, If Linda comes we could let her have the next party - to celebrate!
