Widget woes

I tried to add a widget to my profile. It only shows the code. Can Widgets only be added to the actual blog? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the tip Troy.  After reading James Shiner's blog, I was able to create a cool widget for my profile featuring a slide show of images from my blog.  Pretty cool.  Heidi

I've had luck with Widgets but sometimes they don't work.  I know they can be overused and I suppose lots of us have wanted to know more so we can do it right.  It's easy to find if you search!  Thanks for the link to James Shiner's blog!
