Could there possibly be a trickle down for consumers?

I recently posted information regarding the "First time home buyer's tax credit" indicating the money really represented an interest free loan for the consumer.I received a comment that this is now going to be a gift from the government and the debt will be forgiven. I have not been able to find any further information regarding this.  I am hopeful someone can provide this info.

What a nice blessing that would be and perhaps a help for the real estate market of today.  We could use all the help we can get in trying to get buyers off the fence. With all the bail out money in the hands of the banks it would be nice to see some go directly to the consumer (TAXPAYER) for a change.
