The history of the old quarries in the west side of Alachua County goes back to the 1890's when phosphate mining was the new frontier in Florida.  The mining industry was cut short with World War I and our Florida landscape is now left with amazing ravines and quarries with huge oaks growing in the base.  These are not sink holes.   The deepest quarry on this property is 40' and there is not water in them.  You would have to be at least 50' deep to hit the aquifer of water here.   This property has walking trails in the quarries, and one has a huge camphor tree in the base with a big swing.  The rock walls and ferns growing everywhere are just beautiful.

Well, I just tried to convince my boyfriend that we need to move here, but he wouldn't go for it. :( :(  This is MY type of property; I just love it!!  You have a GREAT price on here and whoever buys this place is going to be very lucky indeed.

I guess I'll just have to keep the property in mind for people other than me...sigh...  The virtual tour is fantastic and the bridge is so so cool.  The 2nd home is a total bonus - what an awesome place for the "man cave" or a guest cottage, mother-in law quarters - so many more uses.  This place has a lot of character and the property itself is beautiful with all the trees and ravines.  Best of luck on this one!

Christine - Please shoot me an e-mail and let me know when you decide to have the open house and I would like to attend if my schedule permits.  I can't get over this property!  I have watched the virtual tour 3 times just pining away from it.  It's seriously my dream house - I am all about the quarries and that type of landscape, as well as being on the outside of the city with some land.  It's just a little too soon for us to move right now or we would seriously be considering this house because it meets every single criteria we want!  I'd like to come to the open house to torture myself ahahaha.  Also, the wallpaper in the master is the same wallpaper I have in my hall bath so I tried to tell my boyfriend it was fate lol.

     Interesting property Christine.  I hope you get a lot of interest.

I sure miss that area, (except in the winter!) but will probablly see more of it in upcoming years. I graduated from GHS & 2 of 4 daughters from UofF. Spent time with my late spouse at Shands and Hope Lodge as needed from 1995-2007. They are a true blessing!  My family's cemetary is at Arredonda, close to Kanapaha Gardens. I lived on Lake Alto growing up. Had to settle mom's estate when she died and sell that home, so I decided to take the real estate course a few years later.

One daughter and her family are moving from Ft Worth to Winter Springs the 25th of this month.  :-)        Her in-laws and other family are also in G'ville so I know we will have some family gatherings there..

I always enjoy seeing and selling interesting and unique properties, especially if they offer a view. Good luck with this one!
