Theatre Coppell was established in 1989 as Coppell Community Theatre and has since then performed dramas, comedies, and musicals each year. In 1999, the City of Coppell renovated an unused fire station that has become the home of the arts groups in Coppell, including TC. All our shows are performed in the “black box theatre” of the Center for the Arts. The theatre is an intimate, 132 seat theatre with seating on three sides of the stage.

TC is governed by its members, who are the “nucleus volunteers” who choose to be active throughout the theatre’s season.

Theatre Coppell NEEDS YOU! Would you like to be a part of Theatre Coppell? Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs and duties at TC
In addition to actors, singers, and dancers, the theatre always needs other volunteers. Some jobs require that a person commit to approximately six weeks of rehearsals and performances. Other jobs can be done on a Saturday or just during performance weeks.

To volunteer, call the phone number below and leave a message. If you call, be specific about what you might like to do and how much time you can commit. They will be in touch. 972.745.7719

JOB DESCRIPTIONS
  • Typical jobs that require longer commitments are: running sound equipment or lighting equipment; being a member of the stage crew that changes sets during a show; acting as stage manager or house manager; acting as lead carpenter in building sets; being in charge of set decoration; acting as assistant director.

Typical jobs that can be accomplished with less commitment are: sewing costumes; building and painting sets; putting out yard signs; helping with mailings (labeling, sorting); disassembling a set after a show; finding props; storing and categorizing costumes and props; helping seat patrons at a show.

Sets are built and painted, in most cases, on the four or five Saturdays before a show opens. If you have basic carpentry skills (you know what a hammer looks like), you can help saw, nail, etc. If you are an artist, you can do detail painting. If you are not an artist, you can paint large items like a wall, a bench, or a door.

Jobs like director, assistant director, lighting designer, costume designer, etc. usually go to persons who have proven themselves with our theatre or who have substantial experience at other theatres. For jobs such as these, we usually ask that you show us what you can do first.
  • Some specific needs:
  • Mailing, sorting and bundling - often can be done at home.
  • Set construction - hammering and sawing, usually on 3 or 4 Saturdays before a show opens.
  • Painting - on sets, artistic ability helpful but not always necessary, usually done on Saturdays along with construction before a show.
  • Set removal - taking down constructed sets, storing, moving props and set pieces, done immediately after the last performance of a show.
  • Running crews for a show (changing sets, finding props, running a spotlight, etc.) - in most cases requires a commitment of 4 or 5 weeks of rehearsals and performances.
  • House Assistant - helping with taking tickets, showing patrons to their seat, handing out programs, serving refreshments, usually requires committing to two or three performances at least.
