The Charlotte Observer is the newspaper serving Charlotte, NC. I'm not going to make any pronouncements about what I think about its coverage of certain events, but I will tell you a little about the paper. It is a McClatchy owned paper which means that it is owned by the same company that owns the Sacramento Bee and the Kansas City Star. It means that it is a pretty big paper in terms of the medium sized markets in the United States. Charlotte NC is the 19th largest city in the United States after all.

Obviously, it's not the New York Times or the Washington Post, and doesn't carry that kind of brand with it, but it is a big daily newspaper. It has won four pulitzer prizes in its day.

Its website is ok. It has started to diversify its online offerings by adding a website targeted at moms in charlotte and another aimed at race fans called thatsracin.com.

Like many papers, it partners with a local television station. They will probably start to share video and news as the website gets better. They are also a sister paper to the Raleigh News and Observer now that McClatchy owns both of them. They can consolidate reporting duties that way and save money.
