When talking about the beaches of Delaware the usual suspects are Rehoboth and Bethany and rightfully so- each provides lavish public beaches; beautiful sunrises and sunsets; waterfront fare of every kind; and of course the nostalgic sundries shops offering all the trinkets associated with a week's vacation at the beach! Recently the allure of these beach towns combined with the tax friendly environment of Sussex County, Delaware has driven a rise in home sales as permanent residences rather than just vacation getaways. As a result of the increased populations (and prices) of the traditional beach towns, many have begun to search in the nearby town of Dagsboro (a mere 8 miles from the beaches of Bethany). Dagsboro offers the small town private charm many are searching for while keeping the beach close by. The town itself features a vintage one-screen movie theatre; many small, locally owned boutique shops; scenic Katie Helm State Park; and an easy infrastructure (the Post Office, Town Hall, and Police Department are within walking distance of each other). There are several grocery stores and restaurants within a 5 minute drive and of course the new Lowes Home Improvement Store and BJ's wholesale shopping center make the conveniences of larger towns within a stone's throw while keeping the small town atmosphere so many are desiring. Is Dagsboro the next Bethany Beach? Perhaps it is, but with a lower price tag when it comes to a home purchase. Increased traffic already this year tells us many people may be looking at Dagsboro as the next beach town!
