The Home Energy Diet by Paul Scheckel

Bill and I are really focused on reducing our carbon footprint (hence the 1060 s/f house, large compost pile and re-usable grocery bags).  This book hits every aspect of reducing our energy use - with a lot of surprises about things you can do easily (and not so easily).  While we already do a lot of these things, we're implementing a lot of these suggestions to help us be a bit more "green", and maybe reduce some of our energy bills at the same time.

Definitely recommended.

Russel - Green is the way to go!  We don't have any grass at all in our front yard - it's all plants with a fence my husband built from reclaimed lumber (old fences that were being torn down).  Bill propagates plants and most of the stuff in our yard comes from other people's yards when they were dividing or getting rid of things.  In a couple of years - all of the ground will be covered with plants.  We're starting on the backyard this spring.  Our house produces less than a bag of garbage a week and most of that is cat litter.  We recycle, compost and then our dog eats any other food waste.  We've been doing this for a while, and continue to take a hard look at what we consume and how we live.  What's funny is that I have a lot of people say "Oh, I admire you - I wish I could live like that".  We don't do it for that reason - it's just what we believe.  And you know what, if people really wanted to, they could.  front of house

My husband just took a job with Conservation Energy Group which does home energy audits and works with power companies on conserving energy.  He's really excited about it - talk about a good fit!

I agree with you - we need to preserve what we have - not keep consuming more of it.  I like this green a lot.

Thanks for the comments!
