Did you know that a proposal in the current Wisconsin state budget will increase the state's "transfer tax" by 100%? That's right, in the proposal working it's way through the state legislature the fee for selling your home will go from $3.00 per $1000 in sales price to $6.00 per $1000 in sales price!
In Madison, where the average home sale in 2006 was roughly $224,000 that means the cost of the sale will go from $672 in transfer tax to $1344.
So, as a Wisconsinite, the 7th largest taxed state in the nation, I ask "What is this tax increase going to be used for?". I'd think you might ask the same question. What tax is being cut in order to justify this increase?
We need to let our legislators know this is unacceptable.
We need every homeowner in Wisconsin to contact your legislators by phone and tell them to oppose this unfair, unnecessary and unwise tax increase. Call 1-800-362-9472 . The operator will tell you who your legislators are and how to call them.
If you prefer to send an e-mail, log on to waml.legis.state.wi.us and simply type your HOME ADDRESS, and the site will bring up your state senator and state representative and their contact information. You can call your legislators any time during normal business hours Monday through Friday, or you can reach them by e-mail any time that works for you.
Here's a video clip from the Wisconsin Homeowner's Alliance for more information.
