ADOT (The Arizona Department of Transportation) officially began construction to improve the final 15 miles of U.S. 93 south of the By Pass. It is expected to be completed by late 2010 to correspond with the completion of the By Pass. Throughout construction, access will be maintained to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
The new bridge will span the Colorado River just below the Hoover Dam and sit 900 ft above the river. The bypass is expected to speed travel between Nevada and Arizona, cutting the travel time between Las Vegas and Phoenix to under six hours.
