Hi Stephanie,
It depends on whether you have an assigned topic. Career day? You are some what locked in, but if not, WOW, the sky is the limit. Kids have fantastic imaginations. I can give you some ideas that will take up an entire hour if you want to use them. I taught school for 16 years prior to Real Estate and hands on is the answer.
Talk about real estate related topics. GREEN - Have them design a green room, home, or community. They can break up into groups. Energy, trash recycling,
Design a better community subdivision for their town. What makes a subdivision desirable to a family moving into town.
Talk about the personal things that are involved when we move or a new student moves into town. How they can be HEROS to help welcome new students and how, if it should happen to them, they could prepare and adjust.
I hope this helps. I could go on far too long. I am afraid you asked the wrong person.
Wow, Derenda! What an awesome help you are! That really puts a better spin on things instead of talking about first time homebuyers and crazy real estate nightmares...lol!
I really do appreciate the ideas. I will certainly take them to heart when I prepare my presentation. I am limited to a 25 minute presentation so I can't get too extravagant but your ideas are wonderful! Thanks again!!
You can also cut out BIG houses in different shapes, like the silhouette of 8 or 10 inch high houses, and then cut out windows, shutters, doors all indifferent colors, different roof colors, different house sizes and teach them how to look for a home that meets their needs. Does the roof fit? Does it leak? Are there enough windows to give the home sufficient light? Is the house big enough for their whole family or will they have to move again in a couple of years? You may also do -some apartments and thalk about your money buying the building for the landlord and the benefits of owning your own home. Simple language they can understand. And with their house they sometimes get trees and shrubs and flowers, fences, garages, and you can cut them out and place them around their homes.
Have fun. The kids will come up with their own questions if you stir their imagination.
I did that myself last year for my son's 5th grade class and it was sooo much fun! Here is the post link from when I was asking for suggestions just like you are before the big day.
