Hold up your left hand, fingers spread. If you're lucky, you have five fingers. Write 5 personal notes today. E-mails don't count. Typed letters don't count. Personal, handwritten notes. Yes, it would be nice if you had perfect (or even legible) handwriting, and it your grammar and vocabulary were perfect, but waiting for perfection won't get anything done. Write those notes! Write to thank someone, write to say you're thinking of someone, write to someone who went beyond the ordinary. Even Presidents of the US have been known to write personal notes every day - and if you think you have stress, and busy days, compare yours to that job!! No, thank you. Write, write, write.
Hold up your right hand, fingers spread. Again, if you're lucky, you have five fingers. Make 5 phone calls today. They only count if you connect - answering machines are Zeroes, even though you can benefit from leaving a quick message. Is this your weekend or day off? Then call 5 friends or relatives. Remember those people that you occasionally think- it's been a long time, I should call them? Do it, call them.
Habits come from repetition. Don't do these only occasionally - do them every day. 5 handwritten notes and 5 calls. Make them a part of you. This isn't just something to do in slow markets or slow days - do it in hot markets and when you're crazy busy - because they're part of what will keep your lows from being lowers. Don't stop prospecting in good times. Don't get too busy to prospect. These are habits that will help you to even out the business roller coaster.
Remember, too, to put these notes and calls in your contact manager. Check them off on a To Do pad. Or, to have some fun - take a plain piece of paper, and draw around the shape of your hand, just like you used to do as a kid. Then write a name on each of the fingers as you complete the note (or phone call). Use highlighter, colored pens, use funcky handwriting. Draw stars or pictures. Have fun with this, play a little. Just be sure to to it
5 handwritten notes - 5 phone calls - Every Day
