I have been in the market for a new car. However, I have avoided the process due to the car dealer experience. Here is a humorous and modestly helpful article I cam across. Enjoy !!

how do you negotiate the often contentious dealer experience?

Yahoo has debunked the eight most common hard-sell tactics.

Should you find yourself getting pressured, these replies will regain control of the situation.

What the Dealer Says: "You have to make the deal today."

What You Should Say: "Sorry, this offer expires tonight."

What the Dealer Says: "I have to check with my manager."

What You Should Say: "I have to check with my spouse."

What the Dealer Says: "I have to put food on my table."

What You Should Say: "I have to keep food on my table."

What the Dealer Says: "We’re already losing money on this deal."

What You Should Say: "I’m already losing a hell of a lot of money on this deal."

What the Dealer Says: "I’ve got another offer, this is in high demand."

What You Should Say: "I could go down the street and get the same car."

What the Dealer Says: "This is the only one like it, take it or leave it."

What You Should Say: "I am the only person who would ever buy this unusual car."

What the Dealer Does: Last-minute price increase or hidden fees

What You Should Do: " Last-minute offer decrease", Try countering with a last-minute offer decrease.

What the Dealer Says: "I’m throwing in all this for free."

What You Should Say: "I don’t even want all this stuff."

The best car-buying experience I have had was when I bought my Toyota Camry (present car).  I decided almost before hand, that was what I wanted.  I went out on the internet and found the value of the car with the options/extras I wanted, from the Toyota website.  Then I made an appointment with the Internet Sales division at the dealership, went into test drived the car, and asked to see the INVOICE of the vehicle of the particular car I was purchasing.  The INVOICE is not the the sticker on the window.  I offered their INVOICE price, plus $500.00.  I ultimately saved about $1000. more than I had expected to.
