In an age where "touch" has come to mean many things not so great, I encourage everyone to find  tenderness inside today and show some affection today for the people who are in your life. Share your positive feelings with a partner, friend, or family member. My mom always said, "give me a little sugard>"

Giving  someone a hug, - it could  make you feel better.

When I was studying to become an EMT, I was taught something that changed my feelings about giving out hugs.  I found out that some people, particularly the elderly can go for months without receiving physical human contact....in other words, no hugs.

This moved me and I began to reach out quite literally to people with either a pat on the back or a hug.  I don't think anyone should go without it.  Most people really appreciate it and I know that I enjoy a pat on the back or a hug once in while myself.

I've only run into 2 people in the 10 years since I implemented this policy who seemed uncomfortable.  One of them, last week.  I patted her on the shoulder and she physically pulled back and stared at me.  I think some people may have a problem with others entering their personal space...and that's ok.  Most people welcome it and reward you with a great big smile!!!

My family also uses the phrase "give me some sugar"...especially with babies.

I love to hug and my son is a great hugger.  I always look forward to his tight bear hug.  It makes me feel so loved.

Laura, that is is so moving about the elderly. Thank you for this reminder. It is so important. I think we've gone so overboard the other direction about being careful how and who we touch. As a yoga teacher I am very hands on, but always preface classes by saying if you don't want me to touch you, that's fine, let me know.
