Quite literally, I was home for Christmas this year. It was the first time in my adult life that I stayed home for Christmas -- my home here in NC. My husband and I usually run all over the country, Virginia, Pennsylvania & Minnesota, for the Holidays.
This year, we decided to spend more money on gifts for our families & less on traveling. So we stayed in Holly Springs. IT WAS WONDERFUL! I really never want to leave again. For a few moments on Christmas day I thought about my family in Minnesota, Virginia & California & wished I could be with them. And, of course, Brian missed his family in Pennsylvania. But NOTHING has compared to the relaxation and quiet we had this year.
We made cookies, grilled steaks, opened gifts from each other and our family members and crawled into our own bed at about 8 p.m. and watched 3 or 4 Christmas movies (including How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer & Frosty). And just two days later, we enjoyed 70-degree weather! How can you beat that?
I didn't have to shovel (a Minnesota Christmas tradition), put on gloves or scrape any windows. If I have the choice, from now on, I will be home for Christmas, right here in North Carolina! I know, I know, good luck convincing our families again ...
