Blog Article Titles - Why worry about it? - SEO 101 Part I

By

  • The title tag is very important. Why? Because search engines not only give it value in relation to optimization, SE's use it in their search results. Search on ANY search engine, and you'll see the content of this tag used in the anchor text of the links for each web site. Here is a little experiment. Follow the Google link (opens in a new window) and take a look. Google Experiment - Source

  • Come on Jordan blog titles are a joke.  I mean do you actually think it does anything, you goof.  Good job on wasting your time.

silly cat

Just had to get that out of the way before someone wanted to leave it as a comment ;-)  I saved tons of people the time, trust me if you believe that above please I'm doing you a favor so copy and paste the above and post it in the comments.  Then go along on your merry little way while your fellow AR buddies FLY BY YOU IN SEO RANKINGS ;-)

Since I only have 30 posts and obviously don't know what I'm talking about because the posts and points speak for themselves.

Ok I digress from my ramblings.  Titles really do matter!  They are everything,

  • The current conventional wisdom on search engine optimization is that the first three to four words of your page title are the most important;  - Source

I understand that "Active Rain - Real Estate blog" is the first thing that comes up for all of our blog titles...  Maybe this article will make its way to the AR Overseers ;-)  Since that is the case you need to worry about the next 3-4 words.  Because trust me Google, Yahoo and MSN  (Hehe Like they are really much different or soon to be -> Microsoft in Talks to Buy Yahoo For $50 Billion USD) Anywaz they most likly factor that in and disregard that first part of your titles and their main focus is directed to "your title"...

I have a question for you. I know I need to have the right title. But right now, I have some blogs posted that focus on historical landmarks, and I don't want to tell my readers where or what they are yet. So the title does not reflect the content atm. But in a couple of days, I plan to correct the title, after my readers have read the posts and guessed at the locations if they choose. So my question is, by doing this am I losing SEO?

Great point Jordan.  And I like the comment above from the Knowles as well.

I think there are some basic components of SEO maximization that should be included in every blog and comment.  In the blog, like you said, the title of the blog is very important.  Key words early on in the blog, including the title, help insure the post will rank high at the SEs.  Repeating those key works early in the content is also important to drive the point home with the SEs.  If the article does not quickly relate to the title, the SEs move on to find one that does.

Another key point of SEO is including your name and a backlink to your website in the signature block of all blogs and comments.  Unfortunately ActiveRain has not gotten on board completely with the comment component of this but I have approached them to consider changing their ways a bit.  My SEO studies indicate that including a link back to your website in all blogs and comments is just as important as the content in the blog and/or comment.  In fact, if all ActiveRainers put a linkback to the website in their comments, not only would it elevate their own rankings at the SEs but also that of the blog author.  Furthermore, doing this would create such a buzz of activity at AR that all Rainers would rise up in rankings with the same tide.

Thank you,

Richard Acree

Really great information. I followed your link to Broker Bryant and saw all of his rankings (which since 2007) have obviously fallen off. Thank you for the information!

Great article , but we need to be careful we do not key word " stuff " an article so that the content reads like just what it was meant to read like, an article meant to rank for certain key words with little regard for the content of article itself.
