A DAY WITHOUT POWER...MAKES ONE RELAX AND STOP RUSHING THROUGH LIFE... 2-9-09

After 16 hours of NO power, the "lights are on." It was actually a very interesting experience having no electricity. It gave me time to really "think" without a T.V. yacking. And NO Radio blasting. NO computer...NOOOOOOOOOO Computer? And I lived to tell about it. In fact, the time without juice gave me plenty of reason to relax, kick back, catch up on reading, etc. I even cleaned out dresser drawers.

Why the power outage? We had a heck of a storm, lots of snow...wet snow...heavy snow on power lines...heavy snow on tree limbs..heavy snow on TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES-BAD COMBO. I had to take a little trip into Blue Jay this afternoon, from Twin Peaks (about 4 miles one way) and by the time I got back home, it had taken 1 1/2 hrs. You see, there were downed trees on EVERY street/road.  Wow, what a trip.  I didn't take pictures because my windows were too fogged up and I didn't dare stop and play Ms. "tourist."

Okay, back to my normal life now. T.V is back on. Computer is on. Going to turn on the dishwasher.

...life is good.

Imagine hurricanes in Florida...when Wilma went through, we were without power for a week...we had generators, but used that time to cook, hope the fridge would keep the food we had cold, and to have enough hot water for a short period of time to bathe...16 hours - I can handle that.

It looks like the storm that went through Kentucky. Always can find something to do around the house. Enjoy the day off.

Karen: I CAN'T even imagine!! WE'RE wimps here, I WILL confess.  Whenever I see the horrible hurricanes you folks go through, it makes me count my blessings.

Kat, I can identify with this.  We had an electric fire - fortunately, it was confined within a junction box.  Unfortunately, it was in a junction box buried behind wallboard and it took 2 months and countless holes in the ceiling before we found the problem and had electricity in that half of our house.  It was both frustrating and a good excuse to slow down.

Margaret: That must have been so frustrating!!! Thankfully, it WAS confined and no one was hurt.  But why is it that we NEVER slow down until we have too?

Hi Kat,

Wow, I had no idea you had that much snow. You live in such a spectacular place, I can't wait for it to clear up so we (those of us down the mountain) can see those beautiful peaks.

BTW, I'm a radio person myself, and I've got plenty of battery (you know Costo packs) back-up for emergencies.

Hi Kat, I have to have a quiet day every week or so.  It is so nice to get away from all the day to day noise sometimes.

Lynda: I know I should have a radio back up--thanks for that reminder--and I am really going to get one so I can at least get news. The sun is out today and it is beautiful!!!

Shirley: I THINK we all should do that, don't you think?

Tom: Since I didn't come up with it, but was forced, I can't take any credit. :)

Charles: I had the right supplies; FOOD.

Kat,

Glad you survived the 16 hours with NO COMPUTER!!!  It's amazing how much we rely on having our electricity and we don't realize it until it's gone! Well you got drawers cleaned out and books read, and the best part a little relaxation... so it couldn't have been all that bad!
