The Home Expo store in Encinitas - Jeff Dowler

The Home Expo store in Encinitas - Jeff DowlerWe have been hearing for quite some time now of layoffs from many companies throughout the country, retailers as well as most other industries. Given how things are in the current economy we can likely expect more store closings.

Recent big news of layoffs included Home Depot, with the announcement of closing their Home Expo showrooms that carry higher-end home remodeling supplies and furnishings for every room in the house. Our local Home Expo Store in Encinitas (right over the Carlsbad line off of El Camino Real and Leucadia Boulevard) is included in those closings.

The time could be right to stop in and see what kind of deals remain on all the great products they offer for your kitchen, bath, your floors or elsewhere in your home. My understanding from friends is that things are getting pretty well picked over so don't miss out.

Interestingly, the new Expo concept store for Home Depot was established in San Diego in 1991. But it seems the stores have never been quite the money maker that Home Depot hoped for, and with declining revenues, the closing makes sense. A loss for many, however, especially in terms of jobs.

Hi Jeff!  Our Home Design Center is closing here as well--down to 40% off now.  We have a whole new center built around a super Target and this cool design center; it's VERY sad to see them closing down this store.  It will certainly affect the condo developments adjacent to this shopping area.

Hi Jeff, I spent a lot with this company since I bought and remodeled my home but in recent years there customer service declined a good bit. I switched my allegiance over to Lowe's and have been very satisfied with their customer relations. That said, I am still disappointed that some of our choices are being cut with the failure of so many businesses , along with that many people losing their jobs. Maybe they will all jump into real estate. We do need some more in our business.

Tonight I heard the rumblings out of Sacramento that the party that has prevented the huge tax increases may be stepping aside to give the majority of Californians what they voted for. More taxes and more spending. Income , gasoline and sales  taxes increases are on the table. If that is the way it comes down, the majority of people will obviously be delighted. If the courts will only overturn Prop 13 and Prop 8, these folks may then have their Nirvana.

Hi Jeff,

Another sign of the times, we've got one closing here too in the Anaheim Hills area of Anaheim. Last night I spoke with my son, in No. CA  he was (formerly) one of the Expo's contractors. He also said some time ago they (HD) bought out a small independent chain up north under the Expo banner. They're now history too.

Jeff - it's very difficult when a company expands into a store or product line with a different target and mentality. The things that made Home Depot successful may be the opposite of what Home Expo needed to succeed.

Jeff - I am sorry to see another store closing as it affects so many people with their jobs. I have seen many stores closing in this area too.

This is a unfortunate part of the economy we are dealing with today. It is pretty nerve wracking.

Our Expo down here on Convoy is also closing. I'll miss it. The best selection of cabinet and drawer hardware anywhere.
