Well good morning everyone from Tasmania, Australia. I know my description says I am from Hawaii, but the Pacific state was the closest port of call to Australia!
Now to get a few things straight. Tas Devils do not actually manically spin around gnawing through trees. There are no Kangaroos jumping down the main street, and Australian's generally don't drink Fosters beer. I know this will shatter many of you, please let me know if you need help to get through this information. Bit like finding out Santa does not exist (apologies too if this is news to you)!
I have been asked since joining AR about the differences in what my market is like compared to that of the US/Canada and I guess it is pretty safe to say, not much.
The biggest hurdle facing a property presenter in Australia is that the market is not as established as those markets in the northern hemisphere, but that will come with time. There are stagers in the larger capitals of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth but in my state, there is very little happening. Sure there are the Interior Designers who dabble in this work (but feel that it is completely beneath them) so I am fortunate enough to be able to take the lead and provide a full comprehensive service to agents and the public. There are also a few who claim to present property for sale, yet realtors have no idea of their existance and they don't seem to be acvtive in promoting themselves in the market.
I guess one of the major differences I have noted in the many sites I have trawled of fellow stagers is the style in which houses are staged, and the look and feel of the property from the outside. There is a distinctive flavour that flows through many of the property before and afters that you simply don't see here. Australian homes are generally more heavily influenced by European design trends than anything else.
Colour palettes are similar in their trend to the US/Canada, furnishing is similar in it's design and room layouts are generally the same. So what is the difference? It would appear it is the accessories, the little things that make the big difference. It is the only thing I can put my finger on to suggest any difference.
This small difference considering our geographic location gives me faith that property presentation is pretty much a universal skill that can be translated across many property types, many different styles and it would seem, many different countries.
