Conservative Political Action Conference- Feb 26-28

We had our weekly College Republicans meeting last night. Amid debate about the disaster called the bailout, that sneaky bit about a health records database and an all CR range day (which I can't wait for), we brought up going to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). They mentioned it last semester when they talked about the Americans For Prosperity conference. For me, the CPAC falls on my sorority formals... but I feel it's a much better use of my time/money to talk to the people who will be changing the future of this country than getting dressed up to eat/dance for four hours.

So what exactly is CPAC? It's being held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel (ever stayed in one? very nice) in Washington, DC from Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 26-28.  Big name speakers such as Palin, Romney, Huckabee, Limbaugh and Bobby jindal will be speaking on a variety of issues. Just a sampling of topics include gun rights, the bailout, health care, and immigration. Cost for students is $25, $150 for everyone else and that's for admittance to all conference sessions. The Presidential and Reagan banquest are $275 each. Or you can get the Diamond package which includes both banquets, all conference sessions, year membership to the American Conservative Union, and a few other goodies for $750. Needless to say I'm glad I can take advantage of the student price!

I think conferences like this are important to get like-minded people together and figure out what we can do to change the direction our country is going. In our CR our meeting alone last night, everyone had different opinions on the usefulness (or not) of the bailout and what we would do in their position. For those serious about politics, this is a great opportunity to get the ball rolling on important issues!

Be on the lookout for a post-conference blog :)

Larry, I think it's important for my generation to get on the ball with politics. Too many people I know are completely clueless.
