Technology always doubles, this is nothing new. Although there will reach a point when technology wil stop developing this quickly, and that is when the real problems arrise. Which unfortunately will be happening in just a few years time.
Although to get back to the point I believe this is about the globalization of technology. Having the freedome to explore technology with no barries/walls is the only way to catapult into the future. Done are the times of the mighty single minded countries. The time is comming where the world as a whole needs to work together to expand all of our technology. The days of the small lion pact, has become the new singular ant colonies/world.
