When Your Virtual Friends Are More Real (And More Fun)!

By

I read someone say the other day that she has more fun with her virtual friends than she does with her friends in real life.

friendsThat's interesting to me because the friends I've made online have in many ways made more of an impact on me, my life, and my business than most people I've met in real life.  I started wondering, why is that?  How could that be when I've never even met most of my virtual "friends?"  Then I realized something important...

The friends I've made online are like me, more like me than just about anyone I know locally.  They are entrepreneurs, business owners for the most part.  They are dealing with the same situations I am -

  • balancing home and business
  • learning how to take advantage of all the social media platforms available
  • finding and implementing ways to grow our businesses

It's about what I've been saying for a while now.  Social networking affords us the opportunity to make connections.  Those connections are what make us feel that our friendships with folks we met through Active Rain or Twitter or Facebook mean even more to us than what we ever expected.

Aren't you glad you got on for the ride?  It's the ride of my life, I tell you!

Hi Renae!  This is a cute post--serious too!  Much to my surprise, I found that I could actually make online friends!  I was SO very hesitant to do so in the beginning and now, it seems that those of us with similar qualities are drawn towards one another.  In 'real life' we're not exposed to that many people in one day or at one sitting--that's what is so neat about online 'friends.'  Plus, I learn WAY more from my online buddies here than I do from my real life buds!

Isn't it great, though Debe? I have become so close to some of my online friends who I've met through social networking that I've actually planned trips in certain areas so that I could stop and meet them!

True friends are just friends, whether or not I met them online or in real life.  I have one group of women I have been hanging out with online for about 11 years.  They are friends, plain and simple.  I may have met only a smattering of them, but that makes no difference.
