I took my clients out to view properties yesterday. One of the properties was occupied and so I called and asked the owners if it would be ok to view and what time we would be at the home. The owner said it was fine and we showed up at the home at the time we agreed upon over the phone. When I got there I used the lockbox because I didn't think the owners would be in the home. I used the lockbox to open an outside gate and not the front door. No sooner than I had turned the key the owner yelled at me for not ringing the doorbell at the outside gate, which I didn't see and told me I should have called when I was outside. I calmly told him that I had called earlier and scheduled the viewing with him and I didn't see the bell outside the gate. He was also extremely curt with my clients as we were viewing the property.
In the end my clients loved the home but decided against it because of the behavior of the owner. They told me that they wouldn't want to deal with that owner in a transaction because they know it would just have been a headache. So in the end, the seller lost on a solid offer just based on their behavior and not the quality of their home.
