Firing a Client

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty Executives of Hickory

I just came through the most horrendous ordeal of over 30 years in sales and business.  This woman has driven me to drink (a very short drive) and almost to insanity and sickness.  For some reason, I just couldn't get rid of her.  I kept thinking about the commission on these tough times and also, my reputation as a closer.  I needed to get my head out of my butt a little faster than I did and let her go.  There comes a point where you think you have so much invested in the transaction that you cannot let it disappear.  However, when you are taking so much crap from someone who is so stupid that it's unbelievable, it's time to cut the strings.  I let her walk away from the deal and when she mentioned house hunting again, I said "Good luck, I wish you well".

Refresher 101 for me - don't be afraid to fire someone.  The relief is much better than the paycheck would have been!

Absolutely, sooner rather than later!

But, as you said, sometimes it is easier said than done!

I agree I have had to fire a client or two in the long run it's better for everyone involved however you might want to make these types of posts members only.

Anne, I too have fired a Client in my time and it felt wonderful when I did it. Contracts work both ways and an Agent has every right to cut loose from a Seller or Buyer who is driving them crazy.

I haven't fired any one, but I have walked away from sellers who were totally out of this world.

Good for you. And remember that when one door closes, another opens. Cast your seeds on more fertile soil.

Anne, we can relate.  I think that everyone comes to this point at sometime in their career.  The key is to be able to recognize it soon enough.

Anne,

Had a few of those myself. As far as I can tell, they still have not purchased anything. They are just running someone else ragged. Phew.

Anne, I found your post after a really tough day. I almost fired a client but I talked myself out of it. You post made my mind. Life is too short to deal with unreasonable people.
