I Finally Caved

I swore I was going to avoid the Blackberry as long as I could, maybe even forever.  But last night, my husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day by taking advantage of the Buy One, Get One Free sale at Verizon Wireless.  I am the proud new owner of the Blackberry Storm.

A few words about this new phone.  First of all, when you haven't had a new phone in four years, you really feel out of the loop when you pick the top of the line replacement.  I think I had a legitimate panic attack in the parking lot of the store when the phone was ringing, and I had no clue how to answer it.  Today is a bit better, but it will take some serious time to get used to my new business hub.

As for the outgoing, old workhorse, all I can say is I feel guilty.  I feel like I have betrayed it.  I took it out of it's misery, and it wasn't even in misery.  That was the cell phone I got when I got my real estate license more than four years ago.  It was with me through thick and thin.  Even continued to work after I tried to pry a sign clip apart with it's antenna two years ago.  Thanks for the hard work.  I hope your replacement is as rock solid as you were.

Chris, congratulations on making the move.  You are going to love it being able to retrieve your emails.  I'm now to the point that I check my emails before getting out of bed in the morning.  I love it.  I have a year left on my Treo contract before I can upgrade to the Blackberry and I can't wait.

I tried a smart phone a couple of years ago, but it didn't get good reception and it was too heavy and clunky. I have to admit- the Storm has caught my eye. How does it compare in size and weight to, say, a Treo? Do you know? I love touch screen.

I've upgraded phones every time my two year time limit is up.  I've been eyeing the new Blackberry but have to wait a few more months.

Connie:  It's definitely something I have to get used to.

Leslie:  Beats me!  I can tell you that the Storm is probably one inch longer than a business card, and half an inch wider.  Little more than half inch thick.

Pat:  I have a hard time upgrading when my phone works fine.  Seems a waste.  The advantage to waiting four years is you feel like someone literally dropping you into the next century.

Hi Chris Ann. Glad you finally updated your technology. It does feel like you are coming up to speed with the latest and greatest gizmos. I have a Blackberry Curve and an iPhone. I LOVE my iPhone 3G.

Chris Ann...

2 agents in my office have taken advantage of this offer too, and now I'm feeling left behind. It looks like I'm going to have to cave too!

Gary:  My brother has the latest iPhone.  Same feelings as you...loves it.   Getting used to my new gadget will take some time though.

Richard:  If I can cave, so can you.  You'll enjoy it.

I am close to caving myself, ironically because my wife wants me to have one.

JL:  It was hubby's idea here.  And honestly, the fact that it was his idea came out of the blue.  Whenever my phone had an issue, he pulled it apart and fixed it.

Is this where I'm supposed to say I told you so?

I'm still using my old workhorse. How am I supposed to see that little screan?

Cameron:  After fiddling with this today, I can't answer that question.  I miss my old phone.  I kinow it just takes some time, but maybe I waited too long to upgrade.  Now I just feel lost.

Well, your BlackBerry is a lot newer than mine. I'm still using the old 8600 or 8800 model (can't remember which). I'm holding out for the BOLD before I make the upgrade. But the Storm is a vast improvement over the old flip phone, no?

Chris, I didn't think I'd want one, but after an all day class where one of my associates could check email, news, messages on his Curve without disturbing anyone in the room, I've changed my mind. I need to do some research....are you still liking your BlackBerry?

Debbie:  I do like it.  It's very convenient to be able to get emails wherever you are.  Apparently there were some bad reviews of the Storm's keyboard early on, but a software upgrade fixed the glitches.  Mine works great.

Russel:  Would much rather do what you are doing to stimulate the economy.  This phone is too complicated, but it is nice to have access to my email wherever I go.
