FaceBook Connect for Your Website—Definite Must Have!

By
Real Estate Agent with Eau Claire Realty, Inc.

FaceBook just released a brand new widget that lets you integrate your website directly with FaceBook. I have been waiting for something to come out of their API for FaceBook connect for some time and this is definite progress. It’s not everything that I wanted but it’s pretty cool. If you want to see it in action check out my Eau Claire Real Estate website. So far I added a field that will appear in the middle and below on each page. Let me know what you think by dropping a comment. I’m not positive if I need to be approved by 5 people for running this application or not. If so I might ask for help on that. While you are there check out the Google Friend Connect social bar at the top and bottom right. Please sign in and become a friend of my site.

If you want to read more about the new FaceBook widget you can read this article from Tech Crunch. You can also go to here for instructions. Setting it up is pretty easy for a normal website and a bit rougher for those of you out there using Joomla! It took me about 30 minutes to tinker until it finally worked. The instructions are ok but you might have to go to here for further details.

You can watch the video about installation below.

Jim-- I just added something to make it even easier to connect to me on Facebook through this. Just go back up top and you can add me easy now.

I have been waiting months for this to come out. Its not exactly what I hoped for and more will come for sure but this is pretty cool.

The interaction is great. The feedback is great. The connections are great. What more could you want?

Well the only thing would be something that works more universally to connect every social network. For now Google and Facebook are split and it will probably always be that way. Thats business.

You will definitely see more come out of this though.

Shane, how do you feel about Facebook's recent policy in retaining users content for life. Do you feel that has devalued facebook?

btw: Great API Developers tool. Thanks for sharing.

Well I dont like it when any site just takes your data or your personal information. I know they got a lot of heat for that and changed back but that does not mean they wont do it again. Another story seemingly unrelated was that of Everquest the video game. Apparently they sold all their user data to some scientists to study human something or other. Now they might not do anything evil per se with it but that's a lot of personal information on there I am sure. I don't like Google's policies either. I realize we give up a lot of information when we are public in our profession but that doesn't mean that everything I do should be public. I should have a choice over what I share. I really don't like my ISP being able to read every single thing I do on the internet but they can.

You know 6 months ago you could have asked me and I would have said its useless. Now I think its probably the most important tool.

Why? Because I had never used it and mistook it for Myspace. Its a lot different and clean. There is a difference.

The new API is making this stuff happen and its bringing a lot of great tools.

Sounds very cool, the video is superfast and a bit confusing, but could be it's  11pm and it's been a long day too!  Thanks for sharing the idea, I can see how this would be very useful!
