Returning Phone Calls!
This has always been a pet peeve of mine so to speak, since early in my career working for the Attorney General of Florida. I learned quickly that as a public servant, no matter WHO CALLED, a return call was expected. I took that lesson to heart
and strived over my 25 years in various public positions to return phone calls of everyone that called me, or have someone get back to them within 24-48 hours.
Now that I'm in the private sector, I am amazed at the number of people that don't return phone calls. To their detriment!
For example, I received message on my cell phone a couple of weeks ago from a woman in another town looking for a commercial property. All she left on the message was her name and number. But, in my normal practice of returning calls and promptly as possible I called her within about 30 minutes of her message. After about 20 minutes of conversation and getting the gist of what she was looking for we agreed on a plan and just before she hung up she said:
" Wow, I left six messages with realtors in your town this week. You are the first one to return my call."
Just yesterday I was calling real estate sales personnel around town to setup appointments for my client who is really interested in some high end condominiums in Tallahassee. After leaving very specific messages about the reason for my call, I have yet to hear back from two of them. And these are in buildings with multiple units available.
Either this whole real estate downturn is a hoax, which I sincerely doubt, or people just don't get the value in returning phone calls. I can give you many examples in the real estate industry, the lobbyist industry, and others.
So friends, get in the habit of returning those calls. As soon as possible. You never know when that next call is the one that seals the deal.
