The Oscars are on Sunday, So who really Cares? Let's boycott the Oscars!

I know this may spark controversy, but I for one am tired of hearing about the Oscars and Hollywood. I have for a long time. Why? Because these people have no clue about recession and hard times.

Below is a link to a very interesting video about Hollywood, worth watching: Horror of all horrors, actors are having to take pay cuts or no salary increases for 2009. So instead of making 10 or 20 million a show, they may have to cut back a few million or even down to $250,000 a movie. How tragic ...I'll take $250,000 any day of the week! How about you?

Hollywood is feeling the recession pinch!  Video by Nightline about how the economy is affecting Hollywood unlike the Depression era when people went to movies to escape the hard times.

Hollywood stars are quick to talk about the economy and politics and how things should be done. Give me a break! They own real estate valued in the millions and some have several homes valued in the millions. Even if their palatial estates are taking  a tumble in value, no problem they do another movie or show and bingo several more million in their bank accounts.

So for those of you who want to make a statement to these hollywood stars.....DO NOT watch the Oscars Sunday. We can control their huge salaires. Spend time with your family Sunday Night and all those you love and forget about those who have NO clue about your hardship and real estate market decline.

It is about time hollywood comes down a few notches and feels some of our pain!

Thought my intent is not to proactively BOYCOTT the Oscars, I certainly have no desire to watch.

I agree---let's boycott them...nothing but drivel comes out of Hollywood anyway, right??? I think some of the most inane and stupid comments are made by these folks who believe, for some reason, that they are important and what they say should be considered sacred---where does that come from?  Who gives them the power they seem to think they have??? WE DO!

LETS NOT WATCH----thanks for the post Mary!

I am not watching them, I think Hollywood has been a big part in the declining morals of the American people.  I refuse to be a part of it.

I didn't know anyone watched them anyway.  Kind of like Bush inaguration $42 million with negative headlines.  Obama inaguration $170 million with positive headlines.  They do what they want to.

I will agree that a large majority of celebs are out of touch with reality; but we must remember that these people do provide us with entertainment, which is an important escape in our sometimes stressed-out life.   To place all the blame on them, sounds like "sour grapes"!    We are the ones buying the expensive movie tickets and popcorn.

Property Management the way it SHOULD be.

Looking at their ratings dwindle over the years, I don't know if a boycott is needed to encourage the last holdouts not to watch. Americans by and large are recognizing the Oscars for what they really are- a big expensive party by the rich for the rich to lavish gifts upon the rich and to pretend they are shaping world events. It is a very large and expensive ego-trip.

WE or should I say I am NOT buying the movie tickets and I can escape my stressed out life in many other more productive and fun ways than watching stars strutting down the Red Carpet and talking about which designer outfit they are wearing!

Thomas, You hit it on the nail head....Large EGO trip!

I haven't watched the Oscars for YEARS- and my cousin is Alec Baldwin!!! (That and $6 will buy you a coffee at Starbucks, if you get my drift).

Since Obama wants to control salaries- he could start HERE and cap THEM at $500,000 and put the reset back in the till. Should pay back the 3 Trillion Bazillion Gazillion $$$s in Porkulus- that isn't going to do the housing market one darn bit of good. They killed GA. Johnny Isaksen's attempt at giving a $15,000 credit- I knew the party was over.

Back to the Oscars- they are a bunch of left-wing liberal, self-important, jaded, spoiled, rich IDIOTS- who have greatly contributed to the downfall of the morals in this country. They use this arena to make stupid political statements and ARE totally clueless about the economy and the struggle that "the little people" are having to cope with.

Gone are the glamorous days of Hollywood- it's all hip-hop, no talent, reality celebutards.

And I refuse to pay $ to even GO to a movie anymore.

Great post Mary...

I have not watched the Oscars in years; I don't plan on changing that this evening.  I'll watch the NASCAR race happening just up the road from Hollywood in Fontana, CA.  ;)

It has come to the point that most all entertainers, sports figures, and elected officials don't even come from the real world anymore.  They are coddled when they are kids working their way up...then they get the big contract...the rest is history.

Absolutely no clue of living in the real world.

Wow, I'm surprised at the comments on this seemingly innocuous post - - more judgmental name-calling than I would have thought was necessary.  I sure hope those rich celebrity folks don't decide to boycott realtors when they want to sell and buy their multi-million dollar digs - Yeah, they even have homes in Maine!  Me, by the time they started handing out awards on the West Coast, I was all snuggled in for bed hoping to drift off happily watching Hugh Jackman do WHATEVER it is he wants to do for an awards ceremony!  Unfortunately, my cable company's digital signal froze on a commercial early on in the game and the screen just sat there with www.yourinsidejoke.com for the duration.  Mary, did you have anything to do with that?

I do agree to some extent. It is hard to believe these stars are able to sympathize while they have barely any idea what struggles are.
