Give Me A Break!!

If you have seen John Stossels program on 20/20, I wish he would include this.

I am so tired of hearing all the hearts & flowers victim storys. Didn't anyone ever hear the saying about "Saving for a rainy day!" I guess I am annoyed because I have always done this. But I haven't heard any mention of the responsible citizens who are not expecting a government hand out but are expected to share the burden for the irresponsible. My mortgage came first, not my big screen TV. I not only paid off my mortgage but paid it off early with extra payments. Although I could afford the Mercedes, I choose the Honda. Instead of buying the Gucci purse, I opted for something stylish but affordable. And I knew I couldn't have it all. I paid off my credit cards each month because I did not run them up to their limit. And I am proud to say I taught my son the same. After selling his business, he paid off his $100K+ IRS bill. Every damn dime. (excuse my French) Even though he did not have the cash, He didn't file bankruptcy, or look for a bailout. So my reward for retirement, is higher taxes, & shrinking assets to take care of the  stupid like Octo Mom. I believe Welfare is for the needy, not the greedy. And the word Responsibility should be a required course in school. And why is Madoff sitting comfortably in his home?

Property Management the way it SHOULD be.

The way the political winds are blowing, we are becoming a nation of victims. I am just sorry I did not get into the right kind of business- one that falls under the heading "cannot be allowed to fail".

Claudia, you're one of millions who are looking at the current financial crisis and the response from government and asking, "What happened to personal responsibility?"  In many ways we have become a nation of whiners, and expect someone to bail us out when things get tough. I believe we're actually reaching the tipping point, the time at which those who are footing the bill will say, "Enough."  Our country is now living far beyond its means and cannot afford the path chosen by our leaders.

Good post.  I, too, am tired of the "victim" posturing.  People used their houses like ATM cards, and now are paying the price, or instead, just walking away, causing the problem to grow and grow.  I hope the banks clamp down hard on them.  They'll never get another home, but will forever remain part of the tenant class.

The only thing to whine about, quite frankly, is executive pay, and why do they get millions of dollars in bonuses.  Heck, I could have run their company into the ground for say, er, half that...  But, to increase their bottom line, they lay off people.  Were not corporations set up to serve workers, protect shareholders from liability, and unify a group towards a common purpose.

To me, that is the other side of the coin.  Not to mention that as a fomer lender, I got to look at how people had their financces in order (or out of order) and most people think everyone else is making more money than they are,,, and do not deserve it.

Hi Claudia!
We have become a nation of blame...it is always someone else's fault that something bad happened.  At some point, we have to start understanding that things happen. It's no one's fault and we shouldn't be looking for who is going to reimburse us for our troubles.  That includes people who KNEW that they shouldn't be getting the loans that they did, or were betting on the future. I forgive those who are in trouble due to health or family issues.  We shold be helping them.
