Hey Folks!

I was just messing around on www.godaddy.com yesterday looking at names and the thought it me, is it all about .com?

Now if you have ever searched for a name you know the .com pool is getting real thin. While .gov is reserved for goverment and .edu schools what about the rest.

.org was used for non-profits. Not any more

.biz was looked at as a second class business. Today more and more businesses are .biz

Now we have .tv, .me, .info, .mobi, etc. What do you think?

Should big business classes have a specific tag. Realtor = .rtl, Broker = .bkr, Banker = .bailout (kidding)

As I posted yesterday about toll free numbers how important is it to have a .com?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Have a Great Day!

There is a huge debacle over at ICAAN right now over new domain names. They might soon release hundreds of new domains which would force businesses to buy every domain name just to protect their image. There is talk of .cola and names like that and thats not even a joke.

Can you imagine having to buy 50 domain names just to protect your website?

Thanks Shane,

I had no idea. Right now I have almost 30 different domains (sometimes I get bored and find sales at godaddy) that all point to my site. I can't buy any more.

WOW

There's a Sale at Go Daddy - I love sales!!

It's going to be interesting to see how the whole domain thing has evolved 20 years from now.  .com clearly dominates, wonder how extensions will evolve.  At some point it's going to get too diluted.

I think adding all the extensions is a way to increase profits.  Think about it.

If you coke.cola, most people are going to go to coke.com, first.  It seems like a waste of money to buy these added extensions.

I think .com is by FAR the one that counts the most. Most people automatically will put in .com when searching for a web site.

HI TONY!  When I "retained the services" of GoDaddy the options for something behind the "dot" other than com were alot!  But the rep said that the best way to go is .com.  Simply because, he said, by the time someone figures out your url isn't .com - they are frustrated and move on. -- Gabrielle

Tony, the .com is the most prevalent and best known but for a business to use .biz doesn't sound that far off anymore. Most people have become much more savvy in recent years.

Thanks folks about the .com comments. By far it is the best. The downside is that with the growth of the web .com's are harder and harder to find.

This will be interesting to watch
