Do folks not ask this question because I'm older? No, that did not seem to matter after we first started our company. Maybe half our clients would inevitably ask how long I have worked in this profession. They asked to comfort themselves for the most part I think. Now when I am asked this question, it is more of a conversation starter or just curious folks about your business.
Funny how you gather more and more knowledge at a profession, clients are at ease with you relatively quickly. Their concern changes from does this guy know what he is doing to can this professional help me get what my family wants.
I'm not sure where or when you cross this bridge, it only dawned on me when I heard a client ask this question to a new agent. I believe another part of the equation is the fact that you must be comfortable with clients, nothing worse than a desperate agent. I don't care how much experience you have, people sense desperation, they're not sure what is wrong, but, their gut just tells them something is amiss.
Having prompt answers for questions is predominately not an art form or book knowledge, it is getting into the field, seeing what clients will see. Personally my area of expertise is rather broad, I like it that way, and having built homes does not hurt either. So, if you have not been out showing homes lately, why not get out there and see what is going on? Someone will inevitably ask you and you better have some answers!
