"Public" vs. "Members Only" Blogging Question from a Newbie

Hello.  I'm relatively new to Active Rain (joined on February 2, 2009) and am still figuring things out. I have a question about whether I should be posting my blogs as either available to the Public or Members Only.

As you know, you need to make a "Visibility" designation when you post a new blog, and the two seem most viable to me are the "Public" and "Members Only" ones.

I understand that blogs made available to the "Public" can be viewed by anyone and that the "Members Only" blogs can be viewed only by members of ActiveRain.  Is there an advantage to designating blogs as "Members Only"?  Are real estate professionals more likely to find them if I do? Are people more likely to post a comment if they think that only other members (and not the public) can view those comments?

I'm just wondering what is most effective.  Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.  This is an incredible site, with lots of great advice.

Hi Jason, welcome to Active Rain.  It's a terrific community with a wealth of information to share.  I checked out you're blog and you've got some very informational posts.  I may be reblogging some of them. 

About your question Public vs Member, it's my understanding that the Public posts gets all the good SEO and google juice and member does not.  This is one of the advantages of having the paid Active Rain account versus the Free account.

Jason - Another distintion between Public and Member Only is when you have a question just like this and it can be answered best by a member, then you don't need to broadcast to the Public about your AR training and/or lessons.

Another one that I've discovered is that when I'm having that really bad day because of some thing that some consumer and/or Realtor did to me, I can rant in a Members Only post and the Public will never know what I said.  It's like hanging out with your friends and pissing and moaning about your day.

Hello to all,

I recently posted my first blog and I would like it to be public. In the Visibilty section, I don't have the option to post it in the public section of AR. The only options that I have are, Member's Only, Draft, and Associates Only. What do I need to do to post in the public area?
