Oh, If only I could remember his name...

By
Education & Training with Berman & Pollinger, LLC.

Do you struggle with names?  This has personally plagued me for years and is a constant struggle in a people business where we meet new potential clients on a daily basis.  However, I also know that there is no quicker way to impress someone than to remember their name, especially after a long time has gone by.

Here's a tip from a memory master (and yes, I paid dearly for a seminar that I am boiling down to a 30 second email because I am all about, say it with me, helping you make more money, make it faster, and with less cost).  Here you go with the tip -picture

Use the SAVE method:

S - Say name 3 times when first talking to them

A - Ask a question about the name

V - Visualize a memory hook.  If their name is Lake, visualize them swimming in a lake

E - End the conversation with their name

You won't believe how well this little tip works when we put it into play.

Carpe diem,

Chris

The association thing works great, but I'm not sure what you meant by "ask a question about the name". Something like "Why on earth did your parents name you Chris?" Not trying to be a smart aleck, I just need all the help I can get in the memory department. Too much input, not enough space in the hard drive!

Thanks Chris -- I will "try" to remember and implement this!  What a great photo you use!  How engaging and memorable is that!

Thank you, thank you.  I tend to skip it too fast and then am floundering with how to get their name back.  This is a great idea.

Chris - This is definitely a post to SAVE. Perhaps, Chris, our paths will criss-cross in the future. In any case, Thanks, Chris.

I think when I repeat the name that helps the most. If not, then I don't even really "hear" it in the first place. Yes, people love to hear their own name!

Love it!  I do have a hard time with names.  I'll have to practice it at ReBar Camp in VA!  Unless people walk around with their little avatars to their foreheads, it's like placing actual faces and names together all over again!

Thanks for the tips.  Now I just gotta remember the tips while not forgetting the name the moment he/she tells me what it is.  Sometimes I am just hoping the spouse will call the other by his/her name so I will remember it and not feel stupid by saying "hey - you!"

Thanks Chris,  I am going to try it and see if this works for me.  My only other way that I have come up with is my Palm.  I try to put everyone in there so when they call me their name comes up and I also have notes in my phone.  Sometimes if I am lucky I also get a picture of them in there; so again when the phone rings I can see them.  ~ Kim

I'm with TLW.  I think it's harder to memorize and remember things with more details in the brain over time, so memory tips are great.

What's in a name??

HA HA HA

I am so impressed that I'm not the only one that has problems with names.  But -- MY GOSH -- my current deal, the wife has a 6-letter first name.  Not too bad.  But her last name . . . all 14 letters, is difficult.  She does not have her husband's last name (for professional reason) and his contains 11 letters.  Even escrow keeps getting the names wrong -- even though they're SPELLED OUT for them.  Oh, and the sellers . . . their last name has 12 letters!  I can't remember them . . .  let along spell them OR pronounce them!  Our transaction is set to close March 6th, and I'll be glad.

Good morning Chris. Remembering names has gotten tougher for me the older I get. These tips are good in the short run but over years I'm not sure.

great tip, I do rely on remembering names everyday, and it is tough to do.  One thing that helps for me is to see the name written down.
