The whirlwind force that is Viscape's own Dan and Caroline are hitting the Domnican Republic right now.  Their checking out the sites, including looking into some affordable vacation homes.  Caroline is reporting her findings and her favorites from the field.  Here's her latest report about her trip from Washington, DC to the Dominican Republic.

By the time we got to the Dominican Republic (we were a few hours late on arrival) - the rental car company was closed. Yes, closed. TRAVEL TIP: If you are due in after 6:00PM in any foreign country, check to see if your rental car company will stay open until you arrive (we did not know Spanish - so we were strangers in a strange land). We lost a whole day of our travels looking for a new rental car company that had a rental car available.

Pre-trip, I received incredible recommendations from locals who live, spend time or grew up in the Dominican Republic. Everyone I spoke with just loved the place - some visited and then they just had to stay. I’ve connected in with the Rainieri family who were the founders of Punta Cana and the Punta Cana Resort along with Julio Iglesias and Oscar de la Renta. They all seem to be interconnected somehow - know each other, grew up together and do business together. They’ve given me awesome recommendations and I’ll be sharing those on my blog tour of the country, as we visit each place (thank goodness for social networking!). Today we are going to Puerto Plata on the northwest side of the islands. Below are some quick highlights of other things we plan to do based on suggestions from island native Erika Sordo (connected with her through Viscape):

From Erika Sordo: I have a real estate project in Puerto Plata, another in Bayahibe (near La Romana) and 2 others in Las Terrenas on the northeast coast. Let me know if you’d be interested in checking them out and I’ll help you with the arrangements. The residential tourism brand is Viva Residence.
