Who Gave Them the Power in the First Place

This is my reply to another blog ...

I liked the video too, but the cynic in me just sees window dressing. I wish there were more people like the ones here in  AR who care enough to speak. I watched a video last night of Sen. Chuck Schummer ( I think) who called us the chattering class.  He said that except the chattering class most Americans don't care how Congress spends our money. It made me physically ill, but he is right.

There are still too many apathetic Americans out there. Even after watching that video, how many people really see what is happenning. How many people (even in here) can wade through the faux issues to see the real power grab that is taking place. How many of us are able to cut through the thick vines of deception to see the roots made of greed and ignorance that grow over our foundation?

America is loosing itself, not to a few greedy men in Washington, but to a nation of apathetic  and ignorant citizens who don't see anymore how what happens in Washington affects them. America is loosing itself to its citizens who are befuddled by the issues and have fallen  for the grand shell game that is played out on the nightly news every day. The shell game that confuses us with gay marriage and abortion, with Democrat and Republican. The shell game that is played toentertain us and involve us, the new opiate of the masses; politics. That shell game that keeps us from seeing the real point. The point that gay marriage should never be in thegovernment domain. The choice that we can only pick between two parties. When did we get asked if the government should even have a say in who gets married? That question never came up. It was a bygone conclusion that was overshadowed by the question of who gets to marry.

Who gave them this power? Who acquiessed to their reign. I don't remember ever being asked if I would authorize TARP. I don't remember giving up my right to carry a gun. I don't remember authorizing the government to take part of my income. I don't remember authorizing the formation of  the Federal Reserve, or the U.N., or the IRS, or police carrying assault rifles. These are the real issues. It really doesn't matter who can get married today. The real issue, the one that we should all be arguing is, who gave them the power to decide either way. I thought marriage was a religious issue, not a political one. By deciding who gets to marry and giving up that right to decide for ourselves we lose our freedom. We should be able to aptly see now the peril our giving up our responsibilities to the government.

The issue is the rapid erosion of our freedoms. It is nothing else. I liked the video, but I fear that it just puts a pretty face on a struggle that few people know needs to be had. Keeping our eye on the ball is the struggle and then letting those in power know that we are watching them. Not how they spend our money, but that they assumed they had the power to do it on the first place. Let's question that. Let's start all our political questions with, "should they have this power in the first place?"

Unless you're about 200 years old, you probably wouldn't have been asked your opinion on some of those issues.

This is a well done video from liberal activist Norman Lear, who says it is a new campaign to promote service and volunteerism.  The song was written by Keith Carradine.

Lear has been battling the religious right for nearly 30 years.  Lear is the founded People for the American Way to battle the Moral Majority.

So, while the sentiments are good I hear a underlying tone at I find troubling.  Example: the lyrics in the song 'tis of me' not 'tis of thee'.

But when Lear's name is attached to anything I have to ask 'What is he up to?'

We are heading down the road of more government control in our lives. It does seem that a majority are going for it due to their apathy. We shall see.
