GRI AND OTHER DESIGNATIONS

By
Real Estate Agent with Remax Marketing Specialists

Whew - finally got my GRI.  It only took 3 yrs.  Two classes were cancelled and we had to go to Jacksonville across the state to finish.  I'm glad its over.  I really believe there is value to it.  There is a tremendous amount of information in GRI 2 which I review weekly.  There is a section on Marketing that I found very helpful.

Our board only offered 1 class a year and this year they couldn't fill the class.  Now I understand they aren't even going to offer a GRI class.  That is too bad but a lot of agents can't afford the additional money.

My business partner and I have spent the last three years getting as much education as we could.  We are CIPS candidates and have our Transnational Certification.  We are working with international customers.  We are finding the international customers are wanting to look at as many properties as the domestic customers.  They know there is a lot of inventory and they want the best deal.

It has been so great putting on my name tag with my GRI designation on it.  I've worked very hard and have wanted to be as educated as possible.  This is my career and the more I know the more I can assist buyers and sellers.

Bonnie, Thanks for the information!  I have completed GRI 1, and will be signing up for GRI 2 (and hopefully 3) this year!  Like you, I have been working on furthering my education (currently working on E-Pro) and have completed the Transnational Certification.  I am also looking into the Certified Foreclosure Specialist or Certified Short Sale Specialist designation(s).  Congratulations!

Now that you have it...would your recommend it to others, there are tons of designations, just trying to decide which to do.

Sarah:  I would recommend it.  Its a very good designation to have.  When I first got into real estate, my broker told me the first designation I should work on was the GRI.  I am also working on my e-pro.  I don't do well with online courses but plodding through.

Congratulations to you on your TRC as well.  I think during the down time, we can get more education so we are better agents.  It will change!

The GRI series should be required for every one practicing real estate.  It is by far the best series of classes that are comprehensive in their subject matter.  I can honestly say that my GRI designation is instant recognition amongst my piers.  It shows that I have taken the time to learn my business.

Congratulations on getting your designation.  I know you worked hard for it.  I was considering getting a designation and think I will start with CRS.  Again, congrats.

After I finish my e-pro, I'm starting to work on the CRS.  We have our AHWD and we are CIPS candidates.  We have spent a lot of money which isn't hard to do.  I think the GRI is probably one of the best to have.  I did learn a lot and keep my workbooks handy for reference.  Good luck on your work on your CRS.  That is another great designation and I understand there is a huge network.
